Taylor Lautner can't be Jacob forever.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Twilight star, 19, is close to announcing a deal to star in a movie he optioned, directed by indie icon Gus Van Sant. The filmmaker, 59, is best known for his socially conscious films like Milk, Last Days, Good Will Hunting, and Psycho.

The edgy, not-so-mainstream project is said to be based on an undisclosed nonfiction article previously printed in the The New Yorker magazine. In addition to acting in the film, Lautner's production company Quick Six (which he started with his father Dan) would produce the film.
If the movie gets the green light, the film would be a new arena for Lautner's acting career. Since emerging from the international success of the Twilight series in 2008, Lautner has only made mainstream flicks backed by major studios and big budgets; his September 2011 thriller film Abduction bombed with opening weekend box office results just over $10,000,000 and all around disappointing reviews.
