Outspoken stars Wyclef Jean and Sean Penn are feuding bitterly over Jean's attempts to run for President of Haiti.
After Penn slammed Jean as a "non-presence" in the earthquake-ravaged island nation, Jean fired back during a concert over the weekend.
"I got a message for Sean Penn: Maybe he ain't see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine," Jean sniped.
Penn's rep quickly fired back: "Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti. As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body's immune system thru the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous…That Mr. Jean would make such a false accusation is reckless and saddening, but not surprising."
Haitian-born Jean stated his desire to run for President early last month. It was later reported that the hip-hop star was rendered ineligible for the Nov. 28 election; the country's constitution requires that all candidates living in Haiti for five consecutive years before the election. The star has lived in New Jersey and paid U.S. taxes during that time.
"I'll never quit," he told Newsweek about the ruling. "I'll run in another five years."
