Us Weekly went behind-the-scenes at the 140th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 15 and 16. More than 3,000 dogs of 199 different breeds competed for the coveted “Best in Show” Award in this year’s competition.
We met some of the pooches from the show and found out all about their high-maintenance grooming routines. Harley, owner of Moxie the Afghan Hound, told Us it takes about five hours to get her pup to look so perfect. “We groom her every week, even when she’s not showing, because we need to maintain the coat … She gets groomed out, washed, blow dried,” she said.
Although most of the dogs were very well-behaved on the big day, owners also spilled about the wild things their pups do at home. “My whippets, probably the one naughty thing that they do is they find it very easy to jump up on the kitchen table and eat a whole stick of butter at a time,” the pet parent of two whippets, Anya and Crime Spree, told Us. “Their absolute vice is butter!”
The owners also had hilarious celebrity comparisons for their canines. The guardian of Dallas, an Old English Sheepdog, told Us, “Dallas is like Brad Pitt because all the girls like him.”
