So unpredictable! Jamie Foxx stopped by The Tonight Show on Tuesday, May 19, to promote his new studio album Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses, but switched things up when he signed on for a game of Wheel of Musical Impressions with host Jimmy Fallon.
The Annie actor, 47, took a break from his busy promotional kick to show off some impressive impressions. He spun the wheel previously used by stars such as Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Kevin Spacey.
“How it works is we’re gonna take turns hitting this button here, which activates the musical impressions generator,” Fallon, 40, explained to Foxx. “It will land on one random singer that one of us can do an impression of, and then one random song title. Whoever’s turn it is has to do an impression of that musician doing that song.”
Foxx grabbed the mic to do Mick Jagger singing “Hakuna Matata” before he stole the show with the assignment of John Legend singing the Toys “R” Us jingle. Taking inspiration from Legend’s hit 2013 single “All of Me,” Foxx soulfully crooned, “I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys ‘R’ Us kid / They got a lotta million toys that I can play with / I don’t wanna grow up, maybe if I did / I couldn’t be a Toys ‘R’ Us kid.”
The hilarious video made it all the way to Legend himself, who tweeted a link to the Tonight Show clip, adding simply, “Ha!”
Foxx extended his Legend impression, poking fun at the singer for his onstage attitude, calm demeanor, and soaring pipes. After wrapping his turn as Chrissy Teigen‘s husband, Foxx went on to sing “On Top of Spaghetti” as Jennifer Hudson.
