Sticking by her side. Jennie Garth opened up to Us Weekly Video about her friend and former Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Shannen Doherty’s brave battle with breast cancer, gushing over how Doherty is helping others during such a difficult time. Watch the video above to hear Garth’s kind words!
“She’s strong and beautiful,” Garth, 44, said about her friend. “She’s really reaching out to people who are going through the same thing as her and helping a lot of people. I think she’s doing a great job.”
Doherty, 45, was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015 and chose to have a single mastectomy in May of the same year. In August 2015, the 90210 alum revealed that the cancer had spread and that she would be undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
Garth, who spoke to Us Weekly Video in a room she designed at the Dining Room by Marie Callender’s, has been inspired by Doherty’s willingness to share her difficult journey on social media. “It’s interesting because Instagram usually ends up being about all the beautiful and best parts of my day or life or how I look the best,” Garth said. “She’s willing and brave enough to put herself out there, going through this horrendous experience with such dignity and grace. I think that gives a lot of people the hope and faith that they can do it too.”
Case in point: Last month, Doherty took to Instagram to share a picture of herself from her first round of radiation treatment. “First day of radiation treatment. I look like I’m about to make a run for it, which is accurate,” the actress captioned the photo. “Radiation is frightening to me. Something about not being able to see the laser, see the treatment and having this machine moving around you just scares me. I’m sure I’ll get used to it but right now … I hate it. #radiation #radiationmondaysucks #stillfightinglikeagirl.”
