Keep your eyes on the skies! Sharknado 3 is coming to your small screens this July, and this Syfy television movie phenomenon will once again star Tara Reid and Ian Ziering as April Wexler and Fin Shepard, respectively.
On Thursday, Jan. 15, Syfy announced that the third installment will start in Washington, D.C., and “will cause mass destruction in the nation’s capital then roar down the Eastern Seaboard.”
After the first Sharknado film, about a freak hurricane that whips deadly sharks into the air in Los Angeles, became an Internet sensation back in July 2013, Syfy released the New York-based Sharknado 2: The Second One in July 2014.
Syfy revealed that the highly anticipated sequel became the most watched original movie the network had ever aired, bringing in 3.9 million viewers.
Though she hasn’t commented on the third film, Reid did discuss the possibility of a real-life Sharknado last July in GQ.
“You know, it actually can happen,” she told the magazine at the time. “I mean, the chances of it happening are very rare, but it can happen actually. Which is crazy. Not that it—the chances of it are, like, you know, it’s like probably ‘pigs could fly.’ Like, I don’t think pigs could fly, but actually sharks could be stuck in tornados. There could be a sharknado.”
