Default reaction! The Weeknd had a spot-on reaction to Stacey Dash‘s surprise (and awkward!) cameo at the 2016 Oscars on Sunday, February 28, where he was seen laughing to himself inside the Dolby Theatre in L.A.
Dash, 49, one of the most controversial voices of the ongoing diversity controversy, was welcomed onstage by host Chris Rock as the “new director of our minority outreach program.” While the Fox News contributor was politely greeted by a sprinkle of applause, her subsequent joke (“I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month!”) totally fell flat both inside the venue and on the small screen.
An observer inside the venue told Us on Sunday night that the joke was met by chilly silence. “No one laughed or applauded when she came out and people around me in the audience were saying, ‘Huh?'” the observer says.
The Weeknd, 26, who performed his Oscar-nominated song “Earned It” before the star-studded audience Sunday, covered his mouth and tried to contain his awkward laughter during Dash’s appearance. He was one of several other stars who awkwardly reacted to the moment, including Chrissy Teigen, who was captured cringing at Dash’s joke.
