Get ready to raise a glass, Game of Thrones fans! Johnnie Walker, the 200-year-old Scotch whiskey brand with plenty of devoted consumers, released a line of GOT-themed libations that perfectly celebrate the final season of the HBO show.
The Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky collection, which consists of eight blends, includes seven that are paired with the Houses of Westeros and one that is dedicated to the Night’s Watch, and the pairings are anything but random.
“We have the ability to actually match houses with different distilleries,” Dan Sanborn, Diageo’s senior vice president of culture and partnerships, explained to Cheddar on Monday, November 5. “Take Cardhu, which was run by women back in the 1800s at a time when women weren’t even really in the industry … we partnered it with House of Targaryen, of course, the Mother of Dragons.”
Similarly, Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost was paired with House of Stark while Talisker Select Reserve joined forces with House of Greyjoy.
“You have in scotch, very devout drinkers that like to look for collectibles, and same with Game of Thrones. An avid fan, like that, is constantly looking for things that are attached to the show,” Sanborn said of the booze collection, which launched in November.
What’s more? In October, Johnnie Walker also released a ”White Walker” blend that is inspired by the drama’s fearsome characters of the same name. The new spirit is meant to remind consumers that “winter is here,” even though the Game of Thrones season 9 premiere won’t air until spring 2019. According to the product description the White Walker blend, which comes in a limited-edition bottle, features flavor notes such as caramelized sugar, vanilla and fresh red berries.
And while GOT fans may have a bit to go before they can see how the final season unfolds, many were downright psyched about the Scotch collection. Check out several appreciative tweets below:
WHAAT?!? Coolness. “Ahead of the highly anticipated final season of Game of Thrones, Johnnie Walker is releasing a scotch-whiskey blend called White Walker. The liquor is meant to be served cold and the bottle glows blue when chilled.”
