About

The FX series Fargo is an anthology comedy-crime series set in Minnesota in 1987. Inspired by the 1996 film, each season of the show follows a new cast of characters who get involved with murder investigations in different Midwestern towns. Each crime is unrelated, but somehow all get tied back to Fargo, North Dakota.

Season one of the series premiered in April 2014, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks and Martin Freeman. The season followed a hitman who stops at a hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota after being in a car accident and meets an insurance salesman who he influences to get tied into his schemes. Their meeting becomes the catalyst of several murders throughout the city, leading local law enforcement to get involved to solve the case.

Fargo has been nominated for 70 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning seven, including 2014’s Outstanding Miniseries trophy.

The fifth season of Fargo premiered in November 2023 and starred Juno Temple, Lamorne Morris and Jon Hamm. All three actors scored Emmy nominations, but Morris was the one who took home the gold, winning the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category.
