Star Wars
The Star Wars franchise, created by George Lucas, began with the eponymous 1977 film and eventually expanded to include TV shows, video games and other forms of media, quickly becoming a worldwide pop culture phenomenon.
The original Star Wars trilogy is made up of 1977’s Episode IV: A New Hope, 1980’s Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and 1983’s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. A prequel trilogy was later released consisting of 1999’s Episode I: The Phantom Menace, 2002’s Episode II: Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
After Disney obtained ownership of the franchise in 2012, a trilogy of sequel movies was released without Lucas’ involvement.
Star Wars is the third highest-grossing film franchise of all time following the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Spider-Man.
