NBC’s The Irrational is a psychological drama following the life of Dr. Alec Mercer, a behavioral science professor known for his ability to decode human behavior. The show is based on Dan Ariely’s 2008 non-fiction book Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions. The professor teams up with law enforcement, government agencies, and private clients to solve cases that defy logic and rational explanation. The show delves into the complexities of human psychology and relationships and unravels intricate mysteries, blending science, emotion and high-stakes drama.
Starring Jesse L. Martin, Travina Springer and Maahra Hill, season 2 of the series develops more of a story arc for Marisa (played by Hill) as she heals from significant loss in season 1.
The Irrational premiered on NBC in September 2023. Season 2 premiered in October 2024.
