This Is Us

Drama series This Is Us aired on NBC for six seasons from September 2016 to May 2022. The show, known for its emotional storytelling, follows Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia), who lead with love as they raise their three children: Kevin, Kate and adopted son Randall (known as the “big three”). The NBC hit takes place mainly in the present, but it also uses flashbacks and flashforwards.

The Pearson family’s story begins in the ’70s and spans several decades of losses, triumphs and challenges. Kevin and Kate are the two surviving children of Rebecca’s triplet pregnancy. After losing their third baby, Jack and Rebecca adopt Randall. All three children were born on the same day in 1980 and share a birthday with their father, Jack, who died when the children were 17.

Episodes weave through the past and present, with most scenes taking place in the 1980s, 1990s and the present day (2016 to 2018). Flashbacks often focus on Jack and Rebecca both before and after the birth of the big three, who are played by multiple sets of younger actors as they transition from childhood to their teenage years and beyond. The series is set in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, New Jersey and New York City.

Since its premiere, This Is Us received widespread critical acclaim, averaging a 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In 2016, the series was chosen as a Top Television Program by the American Film Institute. One year later, it received a total of 10 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and was nominated for Best Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globe Awards.
