Virgin River

Netflix’s Virgin River is based on Robyn Carr’s novel series of the same name. The series follows midwife and nurse practitioner Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) when she moves to the small town of Virgin River in Northern California in hopes of a fresh start from her painful past.

Mel meets a local bar owner and former U.S. Marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), his friend John “Preacher” Middleton (Colin Lawrence), Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley), Mayor Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole), physician Vernon “Doc” Mullins (Tim Matheson) and young veteran Dan Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth). Other characters include Mel’s ex-husband Mark Monroe (Daniel Gillies), her older sister Joey Barnes (Jenny Cooper) and troubled young adult Lizzie Anderson (Sarah Dugdale).

Virgin River premiered in 2019 and was renewed for a sixth season in May 2023 ahead of the fifth-season premiere.
