Through the woods and into the Met! Anne Hathaway channeled a familiar fairy tale character on the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala in NYC, on Monday, May 4.
The Oscar winner’s interpretation of this year’s theme, China: Through the Looking Glass, was designed by Ralph Lauren Collection. While other stars turned heads in ornate hats, Hathaway, 30, opted for a custom-designed gold lame hooded cap-sleeved column evening dress.
According to the release from Ralph Lauren, the fabric of her fluid gown was made from actual metal fibers that were milled in Italy. Hathaway spoke to Women’s Wear Daily and other reporters about her outfit. “I kind of feel like I’m from the Deco future,” she said on the red carpet.
Naturally, the Internet reacted to the star’s interesting and different look with varied perspectives. Some liked her outfit, while others thought she looked like something out of a galaxy far, far away. (It is, after all, May 4, which is unofficially Star Wars Day.) The Princess Diaries alum brought her husband Adam Shulman as her date to the annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Shulman, a jewelry designer by trade, looked dapper in a Ralph Lauren Black Label white dinner jacket paired with black tuxedo pants and black velvet slippers by the same designer.
