Twirling on them haters! Dame Helen Mirren is setting the record straight on a misreported incident at the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
When pictures surfaced of the Trumbo star, 70, slumped over the famed stairs at the premiere of The Unknown Girl on May 18, some outlets assumed that she tripped or fell in her navy tea-length dress with black lace detailing and sky-high black heels.
But she told Us Weekly exclusively that she was actually preventing a potential catastrophe. “I was doing up someone’s shoelaces because the [man] was standing there with his laces undone,” she explained while at the 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala on May 19. “I didn’t want him to trip!”
The Collateral Beauty actress, who regularly spins and twirls on the red carpet to show off her gowns, looked radiant at the amfAR Gala in a mirrored Temperley London gown. She paired the black and gold frock with a metallic Jimmy Choo clutch, statement earrings by Harry Winston and black peep-toe heels.
The exclusive auction event, which happens annually during the international film festival, was also attended by Uma Thurman, Heidi Klum, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and more.
What do you think of Helen’s explanation?
