Oh my god, look at that face! After debuting a brand new look on the cover of Vogue last month — platinum blonde rocker chic — the evening’s honorary cochair Taylor Swift arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in NYC, on Monday, May 2, completing her transition by channeling another Taylor: former Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen.
Swift, 26, took over the red carpet in a futuristic, metallic-silver, triple-tiered dress by Louis Vuitton with black leather cut-outs at her waist. The “Blank Space” singer paired the frock with lace-up, bondage-inspired stilettos by Vuitton and jewels (earrings, an ear cuff and rings by Eva Fehren and Borgioni) as she confidently posed on the red carpet.
For the fashion-forward occasion, Swift styled her tousled platinum blonde tresses in a shaggy bob and paired her edgy look with a swipe of gothic dark lipstick. She still sported the same bleached brows from her dramatic Vogue cover shoot, which was revealed on April 14.
Oddly enough, she reminded Us of Taylor Momsen during the last mid-seasons of Gossip Girl, which aired on CW from 2007 to 2012. Momsen portrayed Jenny Humphrey on the series, who went from prim and proper tween to wild rocker chick in the later episodes. Like Swift, Momsen also sported messy platinum tresses and sparkly outfits after her assimilation into the chaotic world of privileged teens on the Upper East Side. Interestingly enough, Momsen (also the lead singer of band Pretty Reckless) costarred on Gossip Girl alongside one of Swift’s newest squad members, Blake Lively.
Vogue chief Wintour unveiled Swift’s transformation last month on the Today show and previewed what to expect from her cochair at the 2016 Met Gala. “We very much wanted to give Taylor a new look. Make her into a rock ‘n’ roll chick,” Wintour said. “We love the way she looks. We think she looks young and modern and different, and I can’t wait to see what she’s gonna wear on May 2.”
