The last time America Ferrera cut her hair short was 10 years ago. So when the Superstore lead, 32, stepped out at a Rebecca Minkoff event in New York City on October 21, her new blonde bob — cut and dyed a mere 24 hours earlier — made quite the impact.
“On my show, there’s a story line where my character cuts her hair and I was like, ‘You know what? I’d welcome a change,’” Ferrera, who says the last time she dyed her hair was in college, told Stylish. “Every time I look in the mirror I’m like, ‘Who is that?’”
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star first revealed the results of her five-hour hair makeover on Instagram October 21. Modeling the “Make America Ferrera Again” T-shirt she codesigned with designer Minkoff to inspire women to vote, the actress posted: “Electing a new president calls for a new hairstyle! Big changes abound #imwithhair #imwithher #registertovote.”
The slogan “is a play on ‘Make America Great Again’ because there are some of us who think that America’s already great,” Ferrera told Stylish. “It’s also about caring, voting and staying engaged — show up for yourself and the people you love, show up for this country because I think what we’ve been reminded of in this election is we can’t take anything for granted.”
The limited-edition tees are $48 on rebeccaminkoff.com and 20 percent of the purchase price goes to Rock the Vote. We’re certain Hillary Clinton would approve.
