We love a good theme, and apparently Amber Heard does, too. The actress arrived at the London premiere of her new superhero flick Aquaman on Monday, November 26, in a green brocade Valentino gown and matching headpiece that was a couture swim cap. The under-the-sea vibes were in full effect.
In what we can only assume was an ode to the oceanic film in which Heard plays Mera, the blonde beauty stunned in the whimsical design on the blue carpet. For those uninitiated to the DC Comics universe, the actress’ red-headed character is the powerhouse Queen of the Atlantic and (eventual) wife of Aquaman himself. So rather than rock a literal crown on the red carpet, Heard chose a headpiece more befitting of an aquatic royal.
On Instagram, the actress’ stylish Karla Welch (you know, the woman behind the fierce wardrobes of Tracee Ellis Ross, Elisabeth Moss and more) shared that she’s been dreaming of putting one of her clients in the haute couture creation since it first hit the Paris runway in July, and the Aquaman premiere seemed like the obvious choice.
Giving Us all kinds of vintage synchronized swimmer vibes, the Valentino headpiece featured intricately embroidered florals in an array of greens and even had a chin strap that Heard managed to wear with ease. Welch called the shimmering design “the most beautiful swim cap you’ll ever find.”
With the actress’ blonde locks securely tucked into her topper by mane man Jon Chapman, makeup artist Katey Denno was left to create a rosy glow, complete with bold brows, fluttery lashes, a pretty flush and matching pink lip that helped to anchor the dramatic wardrobe.
And because more is more, Welch finished off the aquatic look with antique drop earrings, a pendant necklace and bracelet from Beladora Jewelry.
