About

Tracee Ellis Ross (born Tracee Joy Silberstein) is an award-winning actress and producer best known for her roles on Girlfriends and Black-ish. Tracee is the daughter of Diana Ross and music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein. She was raised between Los Angeles and New York and attended Brown University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1994 before pursuing a career in entertainment.

Tracee began her career as a model and a magazine TV series host before transitioning into acting in the late 1990s, appearing in projects including Far Harbor (1996) and Sue (1997). Her breakout role came in 2000 when she was cast as Joan Clayton on Girlfriends, a part she played for eight seasons. She reached new heights with her starring role as Dr. Rainbow Johnson on Black-ish, opposite Anthony Anderson, beginning in 2014. In 2017, she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy, becoming the first Black woman to win in the category in more than 30 years.

In addition to her television success, Tracee has appeared in films including The High Note (2020) and Cold Copy (2023). She is also the founder and CEO of Pattern Beauty, a haircare brand launched in 2018.

Tracee has largely kept her dating life private over the years, though she has spoken candidly about embracing the single life.
