About

Diana Ross is a singer and actress best known as the lead vocalist of The Supremes and for her solo hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Endless Love.” Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Ross graduated from Cass Technical High School, where she took an interest in fashion before pivoting to music.

She rose to fame in the 1960s as the frontwoman of The Supremes, one of Motown’s most successful acts. With the group, she earned 12 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Baby Love,” “Stop! In the Name of Love” and “You Can’t Hurry Love.” Ross later launched her solo career in 1970 with the release of her self-titled debut album, which included the hit “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand).”

Ross has released more than 25 studio albums and starred in films such as Lady Sings the Blues (1972), Mahogany (1975) and The Wiz (1978). She earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and has won a Special Tony Award, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Golden Globe and a Kennedy Center Honor.

Ross has five children: Rhonda Ross Kendrick, Tracee Ellis Ross, Chudney Ross, Ross Naess and Evan Ross. She was married to music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein from 1971 to 1977 and later to Norwegian businessman Arne Næss Jr. from 1986 to 2000.
