After his wife filed for divorce in August, Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson filed his own divorce papers Wednesday.
According to TMZ, the former Dancing With the Stars contestant filed in a Florida court stating his marriage to Evelyn Lozada "irretrievably broken."
The couple married on July 4, but their honeymoon period was short-lived: Johnson, 34, was arrested on Aug. 11 on a charge of domestic battery. The NFL player allegedly head-butted Lozada during a heated argument. The Basketball Wives star filed her divorce papers on Aug. 14.
"It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me," Lozada told Us Weekly in a statement on Aug. 14. "It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time."
TMZ reports that Johnson asked the judge to block Lozada's request that he pay her legal fees in his filing, due to their prenuptial agreement.
