O, my! The movie posters for controversial auteur Lars Von Trier‘s new movie, Nymphomaniac, show some of Hollywood’s most respected actors up close and personal, wearing no clothing — and, in an obvious nod to the film’s subject matter — making O-faces.
There are 14 arousing posters in all, which may seem excessive, but given the film is reportedly a two-part, five-hour saga of one woman’s sexual adventures over the course of her life, the multiple ads make sense. Among the actors portrayed mid-orgasm in the series of shots are Uma Thurman, Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Stellan Skarsgard, Jamie Bell, Mia Goth, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
While some of the images capture the joy of sex (e.g., Thurman’s transcendent state), others give a peek of its dark side (e.g., Skarsgard’s ruthless look). The film is slated to be released in Denmark in December; a more hard-core version will reportedly premiere at Cannes in 2014.
Nymphomaniac has generated a ton of buzz ever since LaBeouf told MTV News in 2012 that the on-screen sex wouldn’t be simulated — that is, it would be actual copulation. “We’re doing it for real…everything is happening. It’s going to be a wild movie, man,” said the actor, who met current girlfriend Goth on the set of the film.
Since then, one of the film’s producers has clarified LaBeouf’s boast. “We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body-doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two,” Louise Vesth told The Hollywood Reporter. “So above the waist it will be the star and below the waist it will be doubles.”
