Turning 33 may just have been the best thing to happen to Kim Kardashian. As previously revealed, the reality starlet got engaged to longtime boyfriend Kanye West in a romantic proposal at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. West’s elaborate production featured a live orchestra, a surprise appearance from Kardashian’s closest family and friends, and a scoreboard that read “Pleeease Marry Meee!!!”
But the best gift of all was the giant Lorraine Schwartz D flawless cushion cut ring the Yeezus rapper presented to the mother of his 4-month-old daughter North. A rep for Lorraine Schwartz spoke with Us Weekly about West’s selection process and his hands-on approach to finding the perfect rock.
“Kanye looked at many beautiful diamonds, he wanted a perfect stone,” the rep tells Us. “He wanted it to look like the diamond was floating on Kim’s finger! Lorraine was happy that Kanye asked her to create the ring with him. Kim and Lorraine are dear friends. Kanye was very involved with the design and the whole process.”
It’s no surprise the self-proclaimed “creative genius” was at the front of the selection process. The controversial rapper and fashion designer has stated many times that he’s focused on the production element in all aspects of his life from his performances to fashion.
TMZ reported that the ring was 15 carats, but there has been no official confirmation. No word yet on the cost of the ring, but Kardashian’s ex-husband Kris Humphries proposed in May 2011 with a 16.21-carat center diamond and two 1.8-carat side diamonds from Lorraine Schwartz. At the time, the rock cost $2 million, but it was recently sold at an auction for $749,000.
