Bad day on set! Jake Gyllenhaal is currently nursing a bum hand after hurting himself on the set of his new film Nightcrawler on Wednesday, Nov. 13, his rep confirms to Us Weekly. While filming a scene for the drama in Los Angeles, the 32-year-old actor severely cut his hand and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.
"Jake was indeed filming Nightcrawler when during the shooting of an intense scene his character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror," his rep tells Us. "Unfortunately the mirror broke and Jake's hand was badly cut up. He got numerous stitches at the ER and was released. He already returned to set for work."
The on-set injury is just another surprise that has come from filming the crime drama. In recent months, Gyllenhaal has revealed quite the weight loss while preparing to take on the film's character Lou, a freelance crime reporter that has stumbled upon the wasted underground of Los Angeles.
"I knew that [Lou] was literally and figuratively hungry," Gyllenhaal told Us of his gaunt appearance at the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards on Oct. 21. "[So] I was always a bit hungry."
Indeed, instead of sticking to a strict diet, the heartthrob admitted that he slimmed down without the help of any specific regime. "I just love this movie," he said of his willingness to transformation his body for the part. "That's how I did it. There really was no technique."
