All good? Matthew Broderick is totally cool with wife Sarah Jessica Parker's ex Robert Downey Jr. reconnecting with her.
The actor told Us Weekly at the opening night of his new Broadway endeavor, It's Only a Play, in New York City on Oct. 9, that, "of course" the Iron Man actor can contact his wife. It all started when Downey Jr. told Howard Stern during an interview on Oct. 7 that he'd like to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend whom he dated for seven years in the '80s.
“I’ll make a point of trying to see her while I’m here. I’d like to,” Downey Jr. said, adding, “I’ll ask [Matthew Broderick] permission. I just want to check in for a few minutes."
Broderick, 52, who was supported by his wife at the opening, told Us he's more than open to allowing the former flames a catch-up. "Of course, he’s more than [okay to connect her] — they’re great friends! What would I say? No? Who do you think I am? No, I love Robert Downey and Sarah Jessica Parker so [yes!]" he said.
SJP, for her part, is on board as well, telling Us, "He and I have always been on wonderful terms so … of course I’m hospitable to that!"
The exes, both now 49, dated from when they were 18 to their mid-20s after meeting on the set of Firstborn in 1984. The Sex and the City star split from The Judge actor over his repeated drug and alcohol abuse.
More than 20 years since their split, Downey Jr. is now married to wife Susan Downey and SJP's been married to Broderick for 17 years.
