Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. is the youngest son of filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. and actress Elsie Ann. He made his acting debut at the age of 5 in his father’s 1970 film, Pound, and went on to star in the teen films Weird Science (1985) and Less than Zero (1987). Following roles in Zodiac (2007) and Tropic Thunder (2008), the actor became globally recognized for portraying Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also portrayed the titular character in Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). Downey Jr. earned an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for his role as Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer (2023).

Downey Jr. struggled with drug addiction from a young age after his father let him try marijuana when he was 6. The Iron Man star was arrested several times between 1996 and 2000 for drug-related charges. He’s been sober since 2003.

Downey Jr. dated Sarah Jessica Parker from 1984 to 1991. He married Deborah Falconer in 1992, but she filed for divorce in 2001. Their split was finalized three years later. The exes share son Indio, born in 1993. Downey Jr. met Susan Levin on the set of Gothika (2003), and the two tied the knot in 2005. They welcomed children Exton and Avri in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
