Diane Keaton
Diane Keaton began her career as an actress on the stage, taking on an understudy role in the original 1968 Broadway production of Hair. She later went on to receive a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role as Linda in Woody Allen‘s Play It Again, Sam. Keaton would go on to collaborate with Allen on many film projects, including Sleeper, Love and Death, Interiors, Manhattan, Manhattan Murder Mystery and the film version of Play It Again, Sam.
Keaton’s film debut came the following year when she appeared in Lovers and Other Strangers in 1970. However, her breakthrough moment arrived when she starred as Kay Adams in Francis Ford Coppola‘s The Godfather (1972) and its sequels in 1974 and 1990.
In 1977, Keaton won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Annie Hall — another Allen-directed movie. This became another one of her most famous films, along with Father of the Bride (1991), The First Wives Club (1996) and Something’s Gotta Give (2003).
Keaton never married, although she had long-term relationships with Al Pacino, Warren Beatty and Allen. She adopted two children as a single mother in her 50s: daughter Dexter in 1996 and son Duke in 2001.
Keaton died on October 11, 2025, at the age of 79. Her final film appearance was in the 2024 movie Summer Camp.
