Warren Beatty is an Oscar winning actor, director and screenwriter. Born and raised in Arlington, Virginia, with older sister and actress Shirley MacLaine, Beatty attended Northwestern University but left after a year to pursue acting in New York. He went on to study under famed teacher Stella Adler.

Beatty made his television debut in the late 1950s and gained attention with his first film role in Splendor in the Grass in 1961. The performance earned him a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year. He rose to prominence in the late ’60s as the star and producer of Bonnie and Clyde (1967), which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

Throughout his career, Beatty has received 14 Academy Award nominations, winning Best Director for Reds in 1982. He starred in and directed films such as Heaven Can Wait (1978), Dick Tracy (1990), Bugsy (1991) and Bulworth (1998). In 2016, he returned to filmmaking with Rules Don’t Apply.

Beatty was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award at the 1999 Academy Awards for his contributions to film throughout the years.

The actor was known for his high-profile relationships in the ’60s and ’70s, dating stars like Julie Christie and Madonna. He married actress Annette Bening in 1992 after meeting on the set of Bugsy. They share children Stephen, Benjamin, Isabel and Ella Beatty.
