Michael Douglas

Michael Douglas rose to prominence on ABC’s The Streets of San Francisco in 1974, earning three consecutive Emmy nominations from 1974 to 1976 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In 1975, he produced the film adaptation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Douglas went on to produce Romancing the Stone (1984), which earned him the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and The Jewel of the Nile (1985). He earned the Oscar for Best Actor in 1988 for his portrayal of Gordon Gekko in Wall Street (1987). In 2013, Douglas won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his portrayal of Liberace in HBO’s Behind the Candelabra. He starred on the Netflix series The Kominsky Method from 2018 to 2021, earning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2019.

Douglas previously dated Summertree costar Brenda Vaccaro from 1971 to 1976. He married Diandra Luker in 1977, and they welcomed son Cameron in December 1978 before splitting in 1995. Douglas moved on with actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 1999, tying the knot in November 2000. The spouses welcomed son Dylan Michael in August 2000 and daughter Carys Zeta in April 2003.

Douglas was diagnosed with stage IV throat cancer (later revealed to be tongue cancer) in 2010 and underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment. As of 2011, the actor has been cancer-free.
