Actress Susan Sarandon was born October 4, 1946 in Queens, New York. When Sarandon was four, her family relocated to New Jersey, where the budding actress played lead roles in Lady Precious Stream and My Sister Eileen. She went on to earn a degree in drama at the Catholic University of America, graduating in 1968.

The Queens native started her career on the stage in Middletown, Virginia, before scoring a major role in the film Joe. After Joe, Sarandon starred in soap operas A World Apart and Search for Tomorrow. Her roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Great Waldo Pepper, Pretty Baby, and Atlantic City helped her break out, with Atlantic City earning Sarandon her first Academy Award nomination. The actress finally became a household name when she acted in Bull Durham in 1988.

Sarandon is also known for her leftist political activism. She married her college sweetheart Chris Sarandon in 1967 before divorcing in 1979. The actress and activist has had several high-profile relationships since then, which people including David Bowie, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Philip Sayer. She has one chile, Eva, with ex Franco Amurri.
