Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson’s breakout role was as Max Rockatansky in Mad Max in 1979. He reprised the role in sequels Mad Mad 2 (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985). In 1995, GIbson produced, directed and starred in the historical epic Braveheart. The film earned him two Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture in 1996. He gained further success for his directorial work on The Passion of the Christ (2004) and Apocalypto (2006). Gibson went on to star in the Lethal Weapon franchise, Edge of Darkness (2010) and The Beaver (2011). He earned an Oscar nomination for Best Director for the 2016 movie Hacksaw Ridge.
In July 2006, Gibson was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for driving under the influence. A tape of the arrest was released, which showed Gibson making antisemitic remarks. Gibson was blacklisted within the industry for several years due to his controversies before Hacksaw Ridge premiered.
Gibson was previously married to Robyn Moore from 1980 until 2011. The ex-spouses share seven children: Hannah (born in 1980), twins Edward and Christian (born in 1982), William (born in 1985), Louis (born in 1988), Milo (born in 1990) and Thomas (born in 1999). Gibson moved on with Oksana Grigorieva in 2009, and the two welcomed daughter Lucia later that year before splitting in 2010. Grigorieva later filed a restraining order against Gibson and accused him of domestic violence, which he pleaded no contest to and was sentenced to the years’ probation, counseling and community service in 2011.
Gibson started dating Rosalind Ross in 2014, welcoming son Lars Gerard in 2017. They announced their split in December 2025 after nine years together.
