Benedict Cumberbatch

This English actor was born in 1976 to actor parents Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham. His career has included roles in theatre, television, and film.

Cumberbatch starred in the Royal National Theatre productions of After the Dance in 2010 and Frankenstein in 2011. Before that, the actor had major roles in multiple productions at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet.

The Internet-meme-inspiring Brit is most famously known for his role as Sherlock Holmes in BBC’s show, Sherlock, which earned him a win at the 2014 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie.

Cumberbatch starred in a number of blockbuster films, some notables being War Horse, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County, and The Imitation Game – which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards.

On Feb. 14, 2015 – after adorably announcing news of their engagement in The Times of London – Cumberbatch married theatre and opera director Sophie Hunter. They share three sons: Christopher, Hal and Finn.
