Eddie Redmayne

Eddie Redmayne is an English actor known for his work in film and theater, including his role as Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Redmayne was born in London, where he first attended Eton College and later studied art history at Trinity College, Cambridge. During his time at Cambridge, he acted in student theater productions and began working as a model.

Redmayne made his professional stage debut in Twelfth Night in 2002 and earned early recognition for his work in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? and Red, which won him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play in 2010. He transitioned to screen roles with projects including Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), My Week with Marilyn (2011) and Les Misérables (2012). His performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything (2014) earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor, and he received a second nomination for his role in The Danish Girl (2015).

He later landed the role of Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), as well as its 2018 and 2022 sequels. Some of his notable later appearances include The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) and the West End revival of Cabaret, which earned him an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2022.

Redmayne wed Hannah Bagshawe in December 2014. They welcomed their first child, daughter Iris, in 2016 and their second child, son Luke, in 2018.
