Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is an award-winning actress known for her versatility and for holding the record for the most Academy Award nominations of any actor in history. Streep was born in Summit, New Jersey, and graduated from Vassar College in 1971. She later earned her MFA from the Yale School of Drama in 1975. During her time at Yale, she appeared in more than a dozen theater productions and quickly gained attention for her range and technique.

Streep made her film debut in Julia in 1977 and earned her first Oscar nomination for The Deer Hunter (1978). She won her first Academy Award for Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979, followed by wins for Sophie’s Choice (1982) and The Iron Lady (2011). Throughout her career, she has received over 21 Oscar nominations, as well as multiple Emmys, Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

Streep’s notable films include Out of Africa (1985), The Bridges of Madison County (1995), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Into the Woods (2014) and Little Women (2019). She also appeared on HBO’s Big Little Lies and starred in the musical film Mamma Mia! (2008) and its sequel. In 2023, she joined the cast of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

In 2014, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Streep married sculptor Don Gummer in 1978. The couple separated in 2017, but did not confirm the news until 2023. They have four children: Henry Wolfe (1979), Mary Gummer (1983), Grace Gummer (1986) and Louisa Jacobson (1991).
