Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo is an actor and producer best known for playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and for his roles in critically acclaimed films including Spotlight, The Kids Are All Right and Foxcatcher. Ruffalo spent his early childhood in Virginia and later moved with his family to San Diego. He struggled with undiagnosed dyslexia and ADHD as a child. After high school, he studied acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory in Los Angeles while working as a bartender.

Ruffalo began his career in theater and indie films in the 1990s, gaining recognition with You Can Count on Me in 2000. He steadily built a résumé with supporting roles before landing the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers (2012), replacing Edward Norton. The role brought him worldwide fame and led to appearances in multiple MCU films, including Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He’s received multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations and won an Emmy and Golden Globe for I Know This Much Is True.

Outside of the MCU, he’s starred in films such as Spotlight (2015), Dark Waters (2019) and Mickey 17 (2025). On television, he earned acclaim for his dual performance in HBO’s I Know This Much Is True. Ruffalo is also known for his environmental and social activism.

Ruffalo married actress Sunrise Coigney in 2000. The couple share three children: Keen (born in 2001), Bella (born in 2005) and Odette (born in 2007).
