Funny or bad taste? While Dakota Johnson successfully joked about Fifty Shades of Grey and her famous family while hosting Saturday Night Live on Feb. 28, the actress and writers have raised eyebrows with a parody of a car commercial featuring her as an ISIS recruit.
In the spoof on Toyota Camry's "My Bold Dad" Super Bowl spot, Johnson plays a naive American girl who is leaving home to go to what many first believe is, well, college.
In the pre-taped sketch, her father (Taran Killam) drives up to an airport to drop her off, and the two exchange their sweet goodbyes. "Are you sure you don't want to do another year of high school?" an emotional Killam asks Johnson as she hoists her backpack.
A white pickup truck filled with armed gunmen then pulls up, waving the black flags of ISIS.
She steps out of the red car and smiles at her father. "You be careful out there," he says to his daughter.
"Dad, it's just ISIS," Johnson replies.
Killeen then asks the rebels to look after his girl, prompting the leader of the pack (Kyle Mooney) to respond: "Death to America."
Viewers took to social media to react to the sketch, some saying she went too far.
"I love her," one Johnson fan wrote, "but knew this skit would not be taken well. #CalledIt."
