Schmidt and Cece are tying the knot! That means New Girl season 5 is going to have plenty of wedding talk when it returns to Fox in the fall.
Because of star Zooey Deschanel‘s pregnancy the cast has already filmed the first few episodes of the new season, and they dished to Us Weekly about what to expect from the upcoming installments.
“The first episode back is an engagement party,” Max Greenfield spilled to Us after the season 4 finale. “And Cece’s mom comes to town; we’re not quite sure if she approves of Schmidt or not. There’s definitely going to be some road bumps on our way to actually having a wedding.”
Hannah Simone, one half of the affianced couple, said she’s excited about her character’s reconciliation with Schmidt simply because she gets to hang out with Greenfield again. “It’s been really cool because for the past couple seasons they’ve kept Max and I apart, but we worked together so much in the first two seasons. It’s been a really fun reunion,” she revealed.
It also means that the audience will get to learn more about their characters beyond the tortured love story. “I think what’s really great is that so much of Cece’s and Schmidt’s characters on the show have been part of this will they, won’t they, and now that they’re together we can start exploring their family and their personal history and who they are as individuals,” Simone added.
But don’t worry, New Girl has also made room for some excellent guest stars, as always. “In the few episodes we’ve shot so far, we’ve had some really great guest stars,” Greenfield dished. “[The Leauge‘s] Steve Rannazzizi, Fred Armisen came in, Taran Killam comes in. We haven’t gotten into it yet, but I’m sure there’s going to be some sort of bachelor party episode.”
There’s also room for another familiar face — Damon Wayans Jr., who departed the show for a second time in the season 4 finale. “As you know there may be a big event next season, so I’m sure he’ll get an invitation,” Simone said.
