Is it 2016 yet? Full House fans have been patiently waiting for tidbits about the Tanner family in the months since Netflix confirmed news of a Fuller House spinoff, and returning series costar Candace Cameron Bure can safely confirm that die-hard fans will not be disappointed. “We’ve filmed two episodes so far and [the taping’s live] audiences were going crazy for it,” Bure told HuffPost Live on Aug. 3 of her time back on set. “It’s exceeded all of our expectations.”
Last week, Bure, 39, returned to the set of the family-friendly sitcom (which first aired from 1987 to 1995) alongside original stars Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), John Stamos (Uncle Jesse), Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey), Lori Loughlin (Aunt Becky), Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner), and Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibler), among others, and told HuffPost Live that the beloved TV family picks up right where they left off back in San Francisco — sort of.
“The original show was about three guys raising children, and now it’s about three women raising four children. Because of the three women [D.J., Stephanie, and Kimmy], we all have the very different parenting styles, which lends itself to different story lines. I’m the single mom of the group, so that’s loaded in itself,” Bure hinted. “D.J. is probably the most strict and scheduled of the group.”
Netflix has ordered 13 episodes of the reboot, and Bure insists that while the show will take place in the present, they’ll stay very true to the original show’s family-friendly appeal. “We’re not trying to push the envelope in that it’s going to be super edgy with Netflix,” the actress said. “There will be a comfort within the show.”
While most of Fuller House is on its way to production, Bure revealed that series creators aren’t totally counting out original stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen yet. Bure’s costar Sweetin previously revealed that their character Michelle Tanner will have a presence on the show, even though the twin actresses haven’t signed back on to take part.
“We would love it if one of them came back and was on the show even for a bit,” Bure told HuffPost Live Monday. “I totally respect their decision if they didn’t want to come back; they haven’t acted in 10 years, they’re in the fashion industry. But the door’s always open!”
