Gone cold! A storied TV franchise is now in the ground, with CBS announcing on Thursday, May 11, that the final remaining CSI series, CSI: Cyber, has been canceled after two seasons.
The crime procedural starred Patricia Arquette, Ted Danson, James Van Der Beek and Shad Moss. It premiered in March 2015, just weeks after Arquette nabbed her first-ever Oscar (best supporting actress) for her role in Boyhood.
The decision to ax Cyber leaves the TV world without a CSI series for the first time since the flagship show — once the most watched program in the country — launched in October 2000.
The original CSI signed off with a two-hour TV movie in September 2015 after 15 seasons. CSI: Miami premiered in September 2002 and lasted 10 seasons, while CSI: New York debuted in September 2004 and aired nine seasons.
Cheers vet Danson has already lined up his next gig, as NBC announced in January that he was going back to his sitcom roots to join Kristen Bell as a series regular in The Good Place. The new sitcom from Parks and Recreation cocreator Michael Schur landed a 13-episode straight-to-series order.
