That’s a lot more than 20 percent! Amy Schumer left a $1,000 tip for the bartenders at Broadway hit Hamilton at the Saturday, March 19, show.
The Trainwreck actress, 34, who was joined by boyfriend Ben Hanisch and friends, tipped very, very generously for her $77 bar tab, according to staffer Madeleine DeJohn’s Instagram post. All the bartenders are aspiring actors as well, which resonated with Schumer: she also worked as a bartender and waitress in New York while auditioning for gigs in her early days as a comedian.
It was the biggest tip the Hamilton bar staff had ever received, according to the New York Daily News. “I was very touched, it was just something so generous and so kind that you don’t see every day,” DeJohn told the newspaper. When DeJohn thanked the superstar, Schumer said, “I’ve been there, I get it.”
The Inside Amy Schumer creator tweeted about the tip to CBS New York: “Lots of love to my fellow bartenders and artists. I’m grateful to them and the cast and crew for another great night.” Schumer also posted several shots at the Broadway phenomenon on Instagram, including one backstage with the cast and one posing with the playbill in her seats.
This was just one of many date nights this week for Schumer and Hanisch, 29, who went public in January. A few days earlier, the couple enjoyed a beach vacation with Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld.
