Michael Keaton was thrilled that Spotlight won Best Picture at the 88th Academy Awards in L.A. on Sunday, February 28. So much so, the actor dropped the f-bomb on his way to join the rest of the cast on stage.
Keaton, 64, nodded his head as he rounded a corner and pumped his fist several times. He also mouthed: “F–k yeah.”
The 2015 Oscar nominee plays Walter “Robby” Robinson in the movie, which is based on the true story of Boston Globe journalists uncovering child abuse in a local Catholic church. The drama also stars Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery and Stanley Tucci.
Spotlight had some stiff competition on Sunday night. Other nominated movies included The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, Room and The Revenant, which was thought to be a frontrunner to win. Despite the loss for Best Picture, The Revenant won best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and best director for Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Incidentally, Iñárritu directed Keaton in last year’s Best Picture, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Keaton won a Golden Globe in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category for his work in that film, but lost the Oscar to The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne.
