Nathan Followill
Nathan Followill (born Ivan Nathan Followill) is an American musician best known as the drummer of the rock band Kings of Leon. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and is the eldest of the Followill siblings. He spent his childhood traveling throughout the American South due to his father’s work as a preacher. Nathan and his brothers, Caleb and Jared, were exposed to music as kids through church and small parochial schools, where Nathan developed the drumming skills that later shaped his career.
In 1999, Nathan formed Kings of Leon with his brothers and their cousin Matthew. The band emerged from Nashville and quickly built a following with a mix of Southern rock and alternative rock. Nathan’s tight, rhythmic drumming became a defining part of the group’s sound as they toured heavily and released multiple successful albums through the 2000s and 2010s. He has earned four Grammy Awards and 10 nominations as a member of Kings of Leon, including the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for “Use Somebody.”
Nathan married singer-songwriter Jessie Baylin in 2009. They share daughter Violet Marlowe (born 2012) and son Oliver Francis (born 2018).
