
Paul W.S. Anderson
Paul W.S. Anderson (born Paul William Scott Anderson) is an English director and screenwriter. Anderson took an interest in film throughout his childhood and later went on to graduate from the University of Warwick with a bachelor’s degree in film and literature.
In 1990, the director landed his first professional gig as a writer for the British comedy El C.I.D., and he remained with the show until its end in 1992. That same year, he founded the production company Impact Pictures alongside producer Jeremy Bolt. He went on to fund and film his first feature film, Shopping (1995).
The English native scored his breakout project after being hired to direct the movie adaptation of the video game franchise Mortal Kombat. He found his second mainstream hit upon the release of 2002’s Resident Evil, in which he cast future spouse Milla Jovovich. He later earned some of his first producing credits on the sequels Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) and Resident Evil: Extinction (2007). His other notable works include Monster Hunter (2020) and In the Lost Lands (2025).
Anderson began dating Jovovich in 2002, and he proposed to the actress the following year. The couple welcomed daughter Ever in 2007 and wed two years later. They later welcomed daughters Dashiel (born in 2015) and Osian (born in 2020).
