The first daughter of the late King George VI and the late Queen Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth II was born during the reign of King George V, her paternal grandfather.

Elizabeth married Prince Philip, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, in 1947. She and Philip, who then became Duke of Edinburgh, welcomed four children: now King Charles III in 1948, Princess Anne in 1950, Prince Andrew in 1960 and Prince Edward in 1964.

After her father’s death in 1952, Elizabeth was officially crowned as the queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. She reigned for 70 years, becoming the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch in history before her death in September 2022.

Elizabeth is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren — including Prince William and Prince Harry — and 13 great-grandchildren. Charles immediately assumed the throne upon her death.
