Regina Hall

The daughter of an electrician and a teacher, Regina Hall grew up in a Washington, D.C. suburb until she went to college at Fordham University in 1992. After earning her bachelor’s degree in English, she went to New York University, where she completed her master’s in journalism in 1997.

Hall started her acting career with a TV commercial at age 26, and it wasn’t long until she scored her first films, The Best Man (1999), Love & Basketball (2000) and Scary Movie (2000). Between sequels to the horror spoof franchise, Hall joined the final two seasons of the hit TV show Ally McBeal. She went on to score roles in Law & Order: L.A., Think Like a Man and Black-ish.

Her career skyrocketed to new heights after two decades in Hollywood amid the massive success of the comedy Girls Trip (2017). She followed the blockbuster with films including The Hate U Give (2018), Shaft (2019) and Breaking News in Yuba County (2021). She also remained a TV mainstay thanks to a guest arc on Insecure and leading roles on Black Monday and Nine Perfect Strangers.

The NAACP Award winner began producing her projects in 2019 starting with the comedy Little, and started her own production company, Rh Negative Entertainment.

In 2022, Hall was announced as one of three hosts for the 94th annual Academy Awards alongside Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer.
