Tito Jackson
Toriano Adaryll “Tito” Jackson was an American musician and founding member of The Jackson 5, best known for his guitar work and his role in one of the most successful family groups in music history. He was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, alongside siblings Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Tito began playing guitar around age 10 after discovering his father’s instrument, and he later began to pursue music as a member of The Jackson 5.
Tito joined The Jackson 5 after its formation in 1964 with his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael. The group signed with Motown Records in the late ’60s and became an international sensation with hits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC” and “I’ll Be There.” After leaving Motown, the brothers continued as The Jacksons under Epic Records, releasing albums including Goin’ Places (1977) and Triumph (1980) and touring worldwide.
As a solo artist, Tito focused on blues. He released his debut album, Tito Time, in 2016, followed by Under Your Spell in 2021, which featured collaborations with Stevie Wonder, George Benson and Joe Bonamassa. Tito was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 as a member of The Jackson 5.
Tito married Delores “Dee Dee” Martes in 1972. They divorced in 1988. The couple shared three sons: Taj (born in 1973), Taryll (born in 1975) and TJ (born in 1978), who later formed the group 3T.
The singer died on September 15, 2024, in New Mexico after suffering a heart attack.
