It’s a battle of music’s biggest voices! Ariana Grande sat down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to show off her vocal range — and give a nod to some of her musical predecessors.
During a round of Fallon’s Wheel of Musical Impressions game, Grande, 22, did spot-on impersonations of Britney Spears singing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and Christina Aguilera belting out “The Wheels on the Bus.”
For the Spears impression, the “Problem” singer used her best stilted, sultry voice for the nursery rhyme. She later switched gears with a guttural, fuller voice as Aguilera singing “The Wheels on the Bus.”
“We should just stop the show there!” Fallon exclaimed after Grande brought down the house with the Aguilera impression, complete with hair flip and a “whoa-whoa-whoa” at the end.
Just seven months earlier, Aguilera herself was the one who sat in the hot seat on The Tonight Show. The 34-year-old singer looked nervous as she hit the button to spin the wheel.
Her first task? Cher singing the Folgers Coffee jingle — and the songstress delivered with a nasally rendition of the familiar tune. Next up, she was given Spears singing “This Little Piggy,” and Aguilera did not disappoint.
“This little piggy went to market,” she breathed in Spears’ signature airy tone, barely able to contain her giggles.
So tell Us, which musical diva did the better impressions, Christina or Ariana?
