Dick Van Dyke is recovering from a scary car accident. The 87-year-old actor was rescued from his burning Jaguar after it caught fire on the 101 Freeway in Calabasas, Calif. on Monday, Aug. 19.
California Highway Patrol officials confirmed to The Los Angeles Times that they responded to a report about a burning vehicle around 2 p.m. Van Dyke reportedly needed to be pulled to safety from his car.
Jason Pennington told TMZ that he was driving on the 101 when he saw an elderly man in a car filled with smoke on the side of the road. He said he pulled over and helped Van Dyke out of the car as flames erupted.
Van Dyke’s wife Arlene tweeted about the traumatizing incident later that day and included a Vine video. “Van Dyke’s melted car,” she wrote as the caption. “He’s fine thank God!!”
