Dick Van Dyke
Dick Van Dyke — born as Richard Wayne Van Dyke — is an actor, comedian and entertainer from West Plains, Missouri. He began his career working on radio, TV and in nightclubs. In 1969, he made his Broadway debut in The Girls Against the Boys. The following year, he was in the original of Bye Bye Birdie, and his performance as Albert F. Peterson won him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He was also in the 1980 revival of The Music Man.
However, he’s most well known for playing Rob Petrie in The Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961 to 1966. His work on the CBS sitcom earned him three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. His big break in film was starring as Bret the chimney sweep in Disney’s 1964, Mary Poppins. He also appeared in the 2018 sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.
The actor has many awards, including a Screen Actor’s Guild Lifetime Achievement honor. He won a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album for the original Mary Poppins soundtrack. He also became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner at age 98 when his Days of Our Lives performance earned him the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series trophy.
Van Dyke was married to Margie Willett for 26 years until their 1984 divorce, though they’d separated about a decade prior. They shared four children.
The actor moved in with girlfriend Michelle Triola Marvin in 1976 and remained with her until she died in 2009. He’s been married to his wife Arlene Silver since 2012.
