Put on a happy face! Jordin Sparks did just that as she arrived at New York City's Rockefeller Center for a taping of the Today show on Monday, Sept. 29, just a few days after news broke that she and longtime love Jason Derulo had split.
Showing off her trim figure in a cropped black sweater and high-waisted patterned skirt, the American Idol season six winner, 24, looked confident and ready to take on the world. She flashed a huge smile as she made her way into the Today show studios, where she sat down with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford to talk about her new movie, Left Behind, and her plans to get back into music.
Asked how she was feeling in the wake of her breakup, the newly single star said, "I'm good, actually…I read this quote [yesterday], and it said, 'When something unexpected happens in your life, or you think something bad happens, just say 'Plot twist!' and move on.'"
Sparks shared a similarly sunny sentiment on her Twitter account three days earlier. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened," she wrote, quoting a common phrase.
Derulo, for his part, opened up in much greater detail about their split during a chat with Ryan Seacrest on Monday. "There was a lot of pressures of marriage," he explained. "There was a lot of arguing and stuff like that that just weighed on our relationship over time. When you stop having more good times than bad times, it's time to call it quits."
He added that there was "no bad blood" between them but that they weren't exactly friendly yet. "I wouldn't say good terms," he admitted. "I'd be lying if I said that, but it's not a bad situation. There's no bad blood. We didn't end off on a weird way or a negative way."
